Meet Louise, a 4-year-old fashion sensation from Colorado

When Louise was born, her mom, Megan McMorris, thought nothing of her white hair. Megan and her husband were blond in early childhood, so they thought their daughter’s hair would turn darker with age.

There was something wrong with the girl’s eyes, so they got a referral to a pediatric ophthalmologist. Louise was diagnosed with ocular albinism. Later, a genetic test confirmed that the girl is indeed an albino.

Louise became an Internet sensation when she was just 6 months old. That’s when she was fitted with her first glasses and saw her mom clearly for the first time. The family filmed the experience and uploaded the video to YouTube, where it has been viewed more than 14 million times!

The family decided to use Louise’s newfound fame to educate people about albinism. The girl has her own pages on Facebook and Instagram, where she has a significant following.

Louise’s family has a plain and simple message, and we can’t agree with it more: albinism is beautiful.

Louise’s mom said:

Albinism is truly beautiful and nothing to fear, something to embrace. We just want to provide hope and inspiration to families in the same situation.

How can albinism affect vision?

Vision problems are common in people with albinism. Many of those with albinism have a sensitivity to light due to the lack or absence of protective pigment in their irises.

In some people with albinism, the optic nerve may not be properly developed. Optic nerve defects prevent the brain from processing visual information properly.

People with albinism are also often affected by nearsightedness or farsightedness.

Albino children should have their vision checked regularly in order to correct any problems as early as possible.
