According to Web MD, the inner conviction of a person about their gender isn't necessarily identical to their biology.
Being transgender is not about a way of dressing or sexual orientation. Instead, it is about fulfilling the inward sense of which gender one belongs to, which is the plight of this set of twins.
A strong bond
After growing up together and sharing many things, including their looks, this set of identical twins, Kasey and Shea Opilla, underwent another experience together.
The twenty-year-olds knew at a tender age that if they could choose a different body, they would. They weren't comfortable in their bodies and did everything they could to hide it.
It wasn't because they felt unattractive, but because they were not particular about their gender, a phenomenon that is called gender dysphoria.
As teenagers, the duo confused their sexuality for gender identity. They were forced to confess to being gay due to how they felt when, in fact, they just weren't comfortable in their bodies.
Despite the fact that their families supported their sexual interests, they still weren't satisfied. Fortunately, the pair soon realized where their real interests lay.
Kasey was the first to launch the transition process in 2015, and Shea followed suit two years later.
When Kasey eventually transitioned, Shea was utterly proud of him, but she was a little envious. Nonetheless, Shea seized the feeling to do something better. He said:
"I thought he was incredibly brave and wanted to support him, but knew I also had some thinking to do about how I was going to come out."
Kasey was very supportive of his twin when Shea began his procedure. He also shared a few words:
"As a twin, you're never alone throughout your entire life – and we certainly weren't going to let each other take on the hardest times alone."
Tips for family and friends of transgender people
