Is there a better way to go about it?

Parents may find themselves lying to protect their kids, but the far healthier option is having an empathetic and honest conversation with them and making it a priority to address the changes they'll have to face while also presenting a united front as co-parents and avoiding blame.

Children should not be forced to choose who to support and they certainly should not become go-betweens for their parents. They need both in their lives particularly if they are not toxic influences. But, how can parents pull it off?

Inspiring exes show by example

A formerly married couple is going viral for showing other divorcee couples how to make life after divorce as close to bliss as possible for their children.

The man named Blake Higginbotham took to Facebook to celebrate his ex-wife who recently got engaged 3 years after a bitter divorce brought an end to their marriage.

Blake explained to his followers that he and the mother of his children got married when they were pretty young and had 3 kids.

But the marriage fell apart and instead of fighting, they divorced and chose to work as a team raising the children. He gushed about his ex-wife's husband-to-be, calling him 'a great guy' for loving the kids like his own and said:

To anyone divorced, I encourage you with all of me to try and look at this from a different angle. Just because you didn’t work out as husband and wife doesn’t mean you can’t be mom and dad.

Children of divorcees are at risk

His message is heartwarming and could save the lives of a lot of children from broken homes. In the U.S alone, available statistics show that 50% of American children will witness the breakup of their parents' marriage.

Experts say children like this are more vulnerable to speech impediments, asthma, and injuries. And even more tragic, they are twice as likely to attempt suicide. We hope Blake's example inspires every divorcee couple who reads it.
