"House Of Horrors" Children React To Their Parents' Conviction Years After They Miraculously Escaped Captivity And Torture

The children of a home in South Africa now known as the Springs "house of horrors" have finally spoken up years after the heartbreaking story of the abuse they suffered at the hands of their parents first broke.

They held them hostage for years

Their case first made the headlines 4 years ago when an 11-year-old boy escaped from the forced imprisonment that he and his 5 siblings had been subjected to by their parents.

He told neighbors of the horrors they had suffered. According to his story, their father had burnt them with a blow torch, kept them handcuffed and locked them in a closet. He also sexually assaulted his daughter while their mom looked away.

Reactions

Now grown up, the boy says he hates them and will never forgive them. His statement was obtained in a court affidavit ahead of a final court ruling in Pretoria where his parents were found guilty of multiple charges.

According to the affidavit, his father had beaten him so much once that he had difficulty seeing and he said:

I hope there is a lot of people in prison that can hurt him as much as he hurt me. I wish I could also burn him with a blowtorch.

He is not open to forgiving or building a relationship with his parents and online people are heartbroken on their behalf.

How to deal with child abuse

Concerns about cycles of child abuse like this have also been raised. Now more than ever, it's important to report suspected cases to relevant authorities who'll take necessary action to protect the abused persons.

This is often the difference between life and death for victims as the authorities will investigate the claims, where necessary remove the abused person from the toxic environment, restrict access to endangered persons and protect the person who makes the report from any civil, criminal or disciplinary proceedings. Don't turn a blind eye on abuse!
