It is in the human’s nature to search answers to the most difficult questions. We’ve managed to find explanations to fire, thunder, wind… We’ve even discovered cells, microorganisms, hormones and now can explain human emotions. We certainly know so much about this world. But it would be foolish to assume there’s nothing more to explore.

What is the most difficult question that humanity hasn’t yet answered? So many people have tried to explain the phenomenon of love and put the chaotic ideas together. And we believe Gary Chapman came closer than others to the understanding of this ethereal feeling. His book “The Five Love Languages,” written back in 1995, has gained worldwide popularity and is still one of the most plausible theories about love. Let’s take a closer look at his ideas and how you could test yourself, according to the book.

5 love languages test

Dr. Gary Chapman created a concept of “Five Love Languages,” which helped thousands of people express themselves better and receive love. This book suggests that there are five main ways people show their love. Chapman believes every person has primary and secondary love languages. Here are those 5 languages of love.

1. Words of affirmation

Some people love hearing words of love. It can be even more important than actions and other gestures. Simple “I love you” can warm their heart and melt the ice. Compliments also work that way. Words for such people hold real value. That doesn’t mean, however, they cannot distinguish truth from lies.

2. Quality time

“Quality” in this case means undivided, whereas “time” means attention. This language of love implies your partner needs to spend all the time with you. Your attention becomes the most valuable thing. Being there for your partner is crucial for the relationship.

3. Acts of service

Have you heard the phrase: “Actions speak louder than words”? People who talk in this language will always give you a hand in need. Such people might not be particularly talkative or emotional, but they that doesn’t mean they don’t love you. They just show it in a different manner.

4. Receiving gifts

Everyone likes receiving gifts, but some might enjoy it more than others. If you find this language a specific kind of manifestation of materialistic traits, please don’t. People whose primary love language is receiving gifts appreciate even the cheapest things, if they transfer your true feelings.

5. Physical touch

Last but not least, physical touch doesn’t necessarily mean sex. Hugs, kisses, and other appropriate, warm forms of physical contact, like hand-holding can be the best way of telling someone how much you love them. For such people, everyday physical connections are essential like the air.

There are lots of different five language tests online, which could help you understand your own language. However, we believe that the best way to learn something about yourself is to simply ask. Talk to yourself and think of the things that make you most happy. Is it hugs or maybe watching TV-series with your loved one? We are all not so different after all.
