Is Your Child Also Out Of Control? Dr Phil Gives Advice To Mom Who Takes Her Work Way More Serious Than Her Kids

Date October 22, 2018

No wonder Dr. Phil is such an all-rounder. Not everybody could cope with mental issues of people as he does, and it's wonderful he can understand various situations and psychological background of each concern.

Mom fears her daughter might be kidnapped

Valerie complained about her daughter's bad behavior, including smoking, parting with guys and adult men, and outrageous attitude to own mother. She said that she's worried about daughter, Veronica, since she may do lots of things.

My daughter is completely out of control. I feel like I don't know what to do. If things don't change quicky, she could be kidnapped.

On the same breath, the daughter said that her mom is crazy.

She's a mess.

However, Dr. Phil investigated the case, not about the daughter, but the mother herself. Valerie asked Veronica's nanny to write him an e-mail. Apparently, Valeria couldn't stop using her seven 'work' phones to write to the psychologist since she's always using them to chat, call someone or do something else. Weird stuff, right?

Everything was done just for attention

How many uncontrollable and terrifying things should happen so that parents will grasp the real meaning of parenthood? If a child does something stupid, maybe it's parents' fault since they pay no attention to their offspring.

Valerie claimed she doesn't have enough time to raise her daughter and monitor her due to her busy work schedule. That's the reason why she hired a nanny, Elaine, who could somehow 'replace' the mother's duties. Elaine conceded that it's very stressful to work with this family.

Valerie doesn't have a time to be a mother. Valerie's parenting style caused a big effect on Veronica.

Though Valerie is a biological mother to Veronica and her sister, she never actually mothered them. The children have always been neglected as Valerie's been absent most of their lives.

Once, Veronica ran away from home, and the reason was to attract mother's attention. Kids needed their mother, not nannies who were paid to be 'mothers'.

You can work and make time for your kids. It's not that hard.

Well, the kid's got the point here, right?

"You've got to stop parenting from guilt"

Nothing and no one will ever replace parents for children. It's okay to work, have own downtime, and do other personal stuff, but it doesn't mean parents should forget about their kids.

Dr. Phill advised Valerie to stop parenting from guilt, and finally, have a great relationship with her daughter. Nobody says that working hard and making money is bad, but these things shouldn't affect the family relationship.

She needs you and she misses you, and you are overreacting out of guilt.

Ultimately, the psychologist ended the show by encouraging both mother and daughter to cope with problems together and sacrifice by something for each other if they both want to relive and toughen their bond.

You've got to take time from your work and invest it in your family.

Don't ever prefer work over family, and never neglect your children, because they simply need you to be their parents, not some random people in the house.
