For a marriage to be successful, both partners need to be able to trust each other. But one man isn't ready to follow this rule.

Popular reasons for infidelity

Try as we might, the fact remains that infidelity is a common occurrence. There are people out there who believe they need to step out of their marriage to achieve certain levels of intimacy.

According to Today, some of the reasons people cheat include a lack of love, neglect, desire for variety, low levels of commitment and low self-esteem.

This man says cheating strengthens his marriage

A married father of two named Josh, who prefers not to reveal his last name, has shared how he believes cheating is helpful in his marriage.

Josh spoke to Mirror and revealed that he has been married for eight years. In the last two, he has had affairs or casual intimate experiences with around six women.

The husband revealed that it all started accidentally. Without necessarily planning to, he cheated with a colleague and found the experience liberating. It was then that he came to the conclusion that he would cheat again.

A couple of months after this first affair, he joined an Ashley Madison, an online dating service for people in relationships who want to have affairs.

Josh said that he and his wife are very close but their desires don't match. As far as he knows, his wife doesn't have any idea about his extracurricular activities.

It's almost a win-win, I can explore my desires elsewhere and then I can be much more attentive at home and less agitated about not being fulfilled.

He said that since joining the website and meeting these women, he has noticed a boost in his marriage.

I think it's of benefit to me and our relationship at the moment - it's enhanced our relationship and our marriage.

He claims that his indiscretions have made him more present at home and he's more relaxed. He added that while he wouldn't mind if his wife wants something on the side, he doesn't think it's something she'd be interested in.

Josh does hope that at some point, he and his wife would work through their issues and find common desires.

Would he be forgiven?

One has to wonder if Josh's wife would forgive him if she learned of these affairs. The fact is, many women do take cheating partners back and each has her own reasons for doing so.

However, we'll probably never know if the wife, in this case, will be forgiven. Would you be able to if you were in her shoes?
