Schools have the important responsibility of helping students deal with issues such as self-discipline, peer pressure and individualism, and most of them believe that uniforms help address these issues; they help eliminate unwanted distractions, allowing students to focus on their studies.

School uniform can be too expensive

And yet, while many parents applaud the demand of school uniforms as a way to ensure that their children are dressed properly and feel themselves equal with other students, others question whether the requirement of uniforms in school eliminates their child's individualism.

There is, however, one more problem that parents and their children might encounter - the uniform's price.

Chloe Adomatis, 27, a mum-of-six says she can't afford to feed her family because of the "punishing" cost of school uniforms. The woman says she's had to cut back on food for her family as buying school uniforms will "break the bank":

“I’ve got six of them so it’s not the easiest thing when you have one but when you have six it’s a lot more difficult,”

- she said.

Despite trying her hardest to find the best value uniforms, Chloe says she has already spent around £200 purchasing one outfit for each of her kids.

According to a national study by the Department for Education, parents spend an average of £230 on a uniform per child which is often too expensive for parents.

All in all, there are many pros and cons of school uniforms and it can be quite difficult to say whether they are really so beneficial for children.
