"I Love Having Girls": Kobe Bryant Was Obsessed With His 4 Daughters, As He Adored Being "A Girl Dad"

Date February 7, 2020

It's been almost two weeks since Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna 'Gigi' died in a helicopter crash. It's also been horrible times for his widow Vanessa, who has to raise her three daughters on her own.

... We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe β€” the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna β€” a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.

Gianna and her father tripped to Thousand Oaks, where she had to play and Kobe had to coach at the Mamba Sports Academy. Nine people were officially confirmed dead in the airplane.

The former NFL player was one of the most doting fathers to his four baby girls:

  1. Natalia;
  2. Gianna;
  3. Bianka;
  4. and Capri.

Bryant was obsessed (in a positive context) of his daughters. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live in September 2019, he smilingly and quickly admitted:

I love having girls. They're awesome.

The 41-year-old star once said he would love to have five more girls. "I would have five more girls if I could," ESPN's host, ElleDuncan, recalled Kobe Bryant saying. "I'm a girl dad."

Kobe mentioned the same phrase pretty often, which became a trend after his death. Elle Duncan began the hashtag #girldad, which thousands of girls used to share their own stories about their fathers, and vice versa.

Kobe Bryant adored spending time with family so much that he purchased a helicopter to avoid rush hours and terrible traffic jams in Los Angeles so that he can dedicate all himself to his daughters and their activities.

Indeed, the former Lakers legend was a hands-on father and he will be remembered by it, too. He was the closest to his 13-year-daughter, Gianna, who followed in her dad's footsteps to become a basketball player.

L.A. Times sports columnist Arash Markazi claimed Kobe's late daughter had a special place in his heart. He said:

... She would always ask very specific questions. That was one thing he told me that he loved the questions that he would get from her. So that was [his] best friend. ... He loved his family, but the one person he spent the most time with was Gianna.

Gigi was beside her father from the very beginning until the last minute of his career. They even died together.

Kobe Bryant's wife

Kobe Bryant met his wife Vanessa when she was only 17; however, they hit it off from the very start. The couple did everything together and became engaged shortly after Vanessa's 18th birthday in May of 2000, which resulted in the low-key wedding a year later.

Kobe's parents did not support their marriage due to Vanessa's young age and the absence of the prenup document. Besides, the couple's relationship hit rock bottom when Bryant was accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old girl.

The Bryants hit another rough patch in 2011 when Vanessa filed for divorce. However, they had reunited in 2013 until 2020.

37-year-old Vanessa Bryant is left alone and she will not have her backbone, Kobe, anymore. It has been challenging times and for her, as she is a single mother now. The former model has paid many tributes within a week, thanking people for their support and revealing her worries about her daughters. But what she knows is that Kobe is helping her from the above.
