Date August 22, 2018 17:54

Globally, we produce 300 million tons of plastic every year, 78 percent of which is not reclaimed or recycled.

Plastic – a huge problem of ours

While for some people these are just numbers, there are those who take this problem rather seriously and try to do everything possible to save the humanity from an imminent disaster. The production of plastic is just continuing to rise, according to worldwatch.org.

An average person from either Western Europe or Northern America consumes 220 pounds (100 kilograms) of plastic per year. Impressive?!

Girl’s anti-litter fight

That’s the reason why Hellesdon High School student Nadia Sparkes seems to be more conscious than other people on the whole planet. The thing is the 12-year-old cares about our planet in her own way. For a long time, she’s been collecting people’s rubbish along her 2-mile route to school. And she keeps doing the same, even though local bullies call her “trash girl.

Apparently, they see it as something stupid and low, not realizing how much good this girl alone is doing for them and the planet they live on. Here’s what she says on the topic, according to edp24.co.uk:

I’m not going to stop doing the right thing because of them, and if they are going to call me trash girl, they can say it with respect.

I’m doing something to protect the world they also live in.

What can we do about it?

Everyone can join her, no matter where you live. Just pick up rubbish wherever you go. Imagine how many ocean animals are killed by it daily. Then, take good care of recycling plastic and other types of trash.

It’s also a good idea to have your own travel mug instead of drinking from single-use cups. Finally, talk to people about pollution and let them understand how important this problem is.

If everyone was like Nadia, the planet would thank us! So let’s just try to do it and save the humanity from global warming.
