The couple managed to transform the school bus into a tiny home for a family of five. They moved into a 40-foot-long bus they lovingly call "Big Bertha" and feel themselves as happy as never before.

Before moving into a bus, Starla and her family were living in the apartment next to Seattle. It took lots of money and efforts to pay rent and maintain the household. That’s why they decided to make changes and create a tiny dream house.

The whole house is well-designed and every single detail is thought through. For example, large counters on the kitchen can be used for folding laundry or activities with children, all appliances are compact and efficient.

The family claims the small space is perfect for raising more independent children. They help with everything and also have direct access to the outside at any moment.

It is expensive?

Of course, everybody is interested whether it is expensive or not to convert a bus into such an incredible and cozy tiny house.

On the Wild Drive Life blog, Meg and Ben shared their experience and prices of transforming the bus:

  • tools(long-term investment): $1000;
  • miscellaneous supplies(insulation, caulking, hardware): $850;
  • lumber: $900;
  • paint: $900;
  • appliances, fixtures, furniture: $1600;
  • hot water system and plumbing: $1450;
  • wood stove and tile hearth: $1405;
  • composting toilet: $1030.

Of course, it is just an example of prices, and it is important to understand that every case is unique. It depends on many factors. For example, whether you buy everything new, or buy on the garage sale, do everything with your own hands, or invite construction workers.
