Don’t miss meteor shower in August 2018

Summer 2018 is full of incredible natural and lunar events. In July, people got a chance to observe the century’s longest lunar eclipse, known as Blood Moon. Also, on July 27, we watched Mars been closest to Earth in 150 years. Some people even could see the red planet with naked eyes.

August 2018 will be no less interesting on space events too. On August 12 and 13, skywatchers can observe the Perseid Meteor Shower.

The shower's peak will be visible both the nights of August 11-12 and August 12-13 in the Northern Hemisphere. This includes North America and Central America, all Europe, most of Asia, approximately two-thirds of Africa, and about 10% of South America.

What is the Perseid Meteor Shower?

So, now we know when to watch it, but what is exactly the Perseid Meteor Shower?

According to NASA meteor expert, Bill Cooke, it is “probably the best shower of 2018 for people who want to go out and view it.” The best part is that we don’t need special equipment to observe the Perseids. But, in case you have a telescope, of course, it will give you a helping hand.

The Perseid Meteor Shower regularly produces up to 60 shooting stars an hour at its peak. While watching the meteor shower, we actually see the pieces of comet debris enter the atmosphere and burn up in a bright light traveling at 37 miles per second.

Cooke recommends choosing a dark area (suburbs or countryside) where the city lights will not distract you from watching the Perseid Meteor Shower in its all beauty. Some skywatchers arrange camping out to observe this magnificent space event.

We already can’t wait to witness this magical and breathtaking phenomenon. Don’t miss it too! It must be mesmerizing!
