She's The World's Oldest Female Bodybuilder At 82, But She'd Never Set Foot In A Gym Until She Turned 56

Date August 2, 2018

82-year-old Ernestine Shepherd is living the life most people can only imagine. She has conquered the world of bodybuilding and looks healthier than most people in their 30s.

Female bodybuilding

She’s only one of the thousands of women who picked an interest in female bodybuilding when it began formally as a competitive sport in the 70s.

But what’s remarkable about this old woman is her determination. She was a latecomer to the sport: she only began to do the workouts to build her body when she turned 56 and became a competitive bodybuilder at 71.

Guinness Book of World Records awards

This energetic oldie who began her workout journey with her sister who passed on in 1992 has an inspiring story.

She wasn’t just working out to be famous. She was all bent out of shape and full of flabs when she hit the gym.

Since then, Shepherd who is married to her biggest cheerleader, has been named in the Guinness Book of World Records not once, but two times.

She's also earned a sport on big networks including CNN and BBC and written a book, because she can!

Wendy Ida's story

Although she maintains that she doesn’t overdo the workouts, her rippling muscles, healthy diet and fab look are inspiration enough.

Like Shepherd, another woman who has become an online sensation for looking unbelievably fit is the fitness instructor Wendy Ida.
