Miscarriage is one of the most devastating things that can happen to a woman. Aside from sadness and depression, they often feel partially responsible for what happened and require a lot of emotional support.

It doesn't help if someone from the family turns against a woman that experienced a pregnancy loss, and one social media user experienced exactly that.

Mother-in-law blames daughter-in-law for miscarriage

Reddit user messylocks shared her story of miscarriage and her mother-in-law's (further referred as the MIL) reaction to this tragedy.

The daughter-in-law (further referred to as the DIL) says she lost her baby a few months into the pregnancy, it happened over night and she didn't go to the hospital due to lack of insurance. The MIL proceeded to blame her son's wife for not going to the doctor when she found out she was pregnant as allegedly miscarriage could've been avoided.

The MIL even went on to assume that her DIL faked the entire thing as there was no proof of miscarriage. Such reaction completely ruined relationship between them as the woman was devastated after losing a baby and her husband's mother only made it worse.

Fast forward to present day, the DIL is pregnant again and wants to move away with her husband, but the MIL is against that as she wants to take care of the baby. The DIL doesn't know what to do as her husband doesn't help and she wants nothing to do with his mother.

People offered advice to the woman

@Ellai:

You move. With him or not. Be VERY explicit with him that NEITHER of their behavior is ok, that ui WILL NOT be abused, during your pregnancy or otherwise, and that you will not be in contact with her in any way. He can communicate that, or she can get ghosted.

@BrandeP:

I think you should start with your fiancé. Tell him that his mother is awful, and you have never forgiven her for how she treated you after you lost your last baby. Tell him that you plan on moving with him, and you have no intention of letting his awful mother help raise your baby.

@PartOfIt:

You are an adult and get to decide what to do with your life. You don’t owe anyone an explanation! So just move and don’t feel you need to tell her. Just do what you want! You also don’t need to tell her you don’t want a relationship, just don’t have one. Drop the rope, ignore, grey rock. But it is best to make sure your husband stands up for you and your decisions!
