9 home remedies for heel spur symptoms
To ease symptoms associated with heel spurs, you can try one or more of the following:
1. Foot stretches

An orthopedist or a physical therapist can recommend specific foot stretches and other exercises to relieve the pain caused by heel spurs. Do them daily to get relief.
2. Heel inserts
To keep your feet in a position that minimizes stress on the heels affected by heel spurs, your doctor may recommend heel inserts. Wear the inserts as long as recommended. You may also benefit from night splints.
3. Ice pack
If your heel hurts, applying an ice pack is the fastest and easiest way to get relief. Simply wrap an ice pack in a small towel and place it on your heel for about 15 minutes. Repeat the procedure as many times a day as needed.
4. Foot bath with Epsom salt
Magnesium in Epsom salt can help reduce inflammation and pain caused by heel spurs. Add a few tablespoons of Epsom salt to a foot tub filled with warm water and soak your feet in it for 15-20 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a full-body warm bath with a cup or two of Epsom salt while you're at it.
5. Foot massage

- dissolve a few tablespoons of baking soda in a foot tub with warm water and soak your feet in it for 15-20 minutes;
- add just enough water to a teaspoon of baking soda to make a paste, apply the paste on the heel (or heels), and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.
7. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar can be used both topically and orally to relieve symptoms associated with heel spurs. So, here are three ways to use this indispensable remedy:
- add 1 teaspoon of vinegar to a glass of water and drink this solution twice daily for a couple of weeks;
- add half a cup of apple cider vinegar to a foot tub filled with warm water and soak your feet in it for 15-20 minutes;
- soak a small cotton or paper towel in apple cider vinegar and apply it on your heels as a compress for 20 minutes.
Curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory substance found in turmeric, can help relieve symptoms caused by heel spurs. To benefit from turmeric, use the spice in cooking and/or take turmeric supplements if your doctor allows it.
9. Cayenne pepper
Capsaicin in cayenne peppers works as a natural anti-inflammatory and can help relieve heel pain. Use cayenne peppers in cooking and/or apply a topical cream containing capsaicin on your heels.
