Hot Water Challenge: A Life-Threatening Teenage Trend That Leads To Severe Second- To Third-Degree Burns
If you are not aware of the dangers of the internet, here’s how a “funny” teenager challenge can lead to horrible consequences. Kyland Clark, a 15-year-old teen, received second- to third-degree burns because of the new “Hot Water Challenge,” a trend which involves throwing boiling water on someone or drinking it through a straw.

Kyland says he and his friend learned about this challenge online and decided to prank each other. The latter one poured hot water on Kyland, while he was asleep for the sake of a joke. Seriously? How is that even funny? The boy immediately was taken to the hospital and stayed there for a few weeks. He recalls the painful incident:
And then I looked down at my chest. My skin just fell off my chest, and then I looked in the mirror and I had skin falling off here and on my face.
Child died because of the challenge
If you think that the internet is dangerous because of porn, you might reconsider your opinion. Unfortunately, there were more people falling victim to this stupid trend, including one 8-year-old girl who died because of drinking boiling water through a straw. According to ABC Action News, the girl was dared to drink the water by her own cousin after discovering the challenge online. She severely burned her mouth and throat and died several months later because of that.
Adults can also do stupid things
Believe it or not, children are not the only ones susceptible to such dumb and life-threatening challenges, as here’s the video of one adult deliberately pouring boiling water on himself.
Talk to your children to be sure they aren't going to take part in any harmful challenges.
What to do in case of burns?
In case you are burnt by boiling water, it is extremely important to act quickly. According to the doctors, the first step is to remove whatever’s burning you in any kind of burn. You need to quickly get rid of boiling-soaked clothes on you. As boiling water causes severe burns, it is necessary to get medical treatment, so rushing to the nearest hospital would be a very wise idea. The goal is to prevent infection, as it is the main danger of such burns. Usually, topical antibiotics and sterile bandages are used in these cases.
