With more women steadily making headways in the corporate and business worlds, having a female breadwinner is a situation many couples have to work with. And in some cases, it can lead to marital issues especially when one or both partners believe that traditional gender roles should be maintained in the marriage.

Regardless of who makes the money, though, it's important that both partners pitch in to make the home run smoothly, which doesn't seem to be the case with this family.

Rich House, Poor House family

A father of two faced online criticism after he was featured on the show Rich House, Poor House.

In one episode, businessman Rob Jones, wife Michelle, and their sons swapped lives with Sacha Robinson, wife Midia and their two children.

The Jones' had a luxury 12-bedroom manor home while the Robinsons were living in a mold-ridden council flat. They swapped homes in order to experience what the other side lived like.

The Robinsons were in a tough financial situation with about $32,000 in debt. Their son Jericho described the family's financial position as "dire."

Sacha previously had a job as a truck driver, however, he gave it up to study for a business degree as he hoped he would one day earn more money. This meant that Midia was left work alone and take care of the family. Midia would work about 12 hours a day just to earn $14 an hour.

Rob Jones was concerned as to why Sacha wasn't pulling his weight in the home.

Midia is in a catch 22 situation. She is stuck in a rut here so unless her husband does something and join in, she’s not going to move forwards.

Rob advised Sacha to get a job and not leave all the financial burden on his wife. He appreciated Midia for all her hard work and advised the family on how they could move forward.

Reactions

Many people that watched the show agreed with Rob and believed that Sacha should definitely get a job.

Social media users slammed Sacha for sitting back idly when there were ways he could change his family's situation.

Money matters can push even the strongest of families to the edge and it does seem unfair that in this case, Midia is forced to bend over backward to sort things out alone. But from the episode, it appeared that Sacha was rethinking his choices and hopefully, he and his family can come up with a plan that works for all involved.
