Family Accuses Mom Of Pushing Her 6-Year-Old Child To Transition To Female As A Form Of "Revenge"

Parenting can get complicated sometimes, and if you're concerned that your kid may have some gender identity issues, things can become even more confusing.

How young is too young?

In an interview with HRC, Dr. Johanna Olson Adolescent Medicine, Assistant Professor, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, said that the concept of transgender in relation to children depends a lot on the age of the child in question.

Olsen explained that just because a child doesn't conform to societally accepted gender behaviors in childhood doesn't mean they would have a trans identity as an adolescent or adult. However, by the time a kid reaches the adolescence age, if they have a gender identity that is different from what they are born with, it's likely they will continue to have that identity.

So the best time to discuss gender changes or transgender label is usually when the person is an adolescent, Olson opined.

Is the child being manipulated?

Bella may be six years old but his mother already believed that the child, who was born a boy, was ready to transition into a female.

Bella's mother, Carly, made an announcement saying her child's new name would be Bella and that pronouns 'she' and 'her' would be used to describe her.

This issue resulted in a family feud whereas neither Carly's brother Daniel, nor her mother, Rose, had spoken to Carly in ten months. Bella's uncle and grandma didn't want to accept the child in her new identity complete with "pink hair, pink dresses, and pink nail polish."

While speaking on the Dr. Phil show, Rose stated that she felt her daughter was doing this as a form of revenge.

Revenge in the sense that I don't get to see him.

Carly was upset that her family had called CPS on her and her husband Bradley claiming child abuse. Meanwhile, Daniel and Rose believed that Carly was forcing the child to transition from male to female at such a young age because she needed to seek Bella's approval.

Reactions

Many people shared grandma Rose's opinion that Carly wasn't doing the right thing by encouraging Bella to transition.

They worried that a six-year-old might be too young to make such a drastic gender decision and some commenters didn't have nice words about Carly.

However, a few people felt like Carly may have a point as long as there are limits.

Do you agree that the adults involved in this situation aren't handling things right?
