Keep Up With Kim: Kardashian-West Visits Donald Trump To Discuss The Prison Reform

Date May 31, 2018

Kim Kardashian visited the White House to talk to Donald Trump about the prison reform. The key reason for KK to push the improvements in sentencing laws is a woman called Alice Marie Johnson.

Johnson's story

The drug business is a severe law breach in the US. For Alice Marie Johnson, it turned out to be a life-long crime, as she was sentenced to life imprisonment for a non-violent drug offense.

The life of a pedestrian woman went wrong at the end of the 1980s when she was fired from her TedEx position, lost her husband, and buried the son who died in a scooter accident. Being on the verge of bankruptcy, leaving her without a house, Alice decided to earn some easy money. She was involved in a drug trafficking operation in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1993, Mrs. Johnson and 15 other people were charged with drug dealing. Ten people testified against Alice and received no or minor imprisonment.

The poor woman, unfortunately, was announced to spend her entire life in jail.

White House visit

Her story wasn’t silenced – it just wasn’t discussed widely. She wrote to Obama’s office three times but received rejections one after another. Finally, she could witness a glimmer of hope when a celebrity reality show Kim Kardashian saw a video about her on Twitter.

She was imbued with Alice’s story and decided to act. On May 30, Kim visited the White House authorities, including president Donald Trump and his senior adviser Jared Kushner.

The meeting was dedicated to prison reform that 37-year-old entrepreneur strives to improve.

No detailed information about the conversation is revealed, but it is stated Kim mentioned about 63-year-old Alice, who spent 21 years behind the bars and was not eligible for parole.

Internet reaction

Twitter users were touched with Kim’s decision to use her fame to influence the US prison system and particularly mass incarceration for non-violent drug offenders.

We hope the president will keep his ears open to Kardashian’s request. Alice and other previously accused people don’t deserve such long punishment. Hopefully, Johnson’s case will be reviewed soon.
