Pope Francis Criticizes Donald Trump By Calling His Disturbing Immigration Policy 'Immoral'

President Donald Trump's zero-tolerance immigration policy has now officially been criticized by the Pope.

Widespread criticism

This follows widespread criticism from civil society, Republicans, Democrats, and top catholic bishops in the U.S. who were straightforward in their indictment. They called the policy immoral.


Pope Francis takes a stand

Now, the Pope is taking a strong stance against Trump as well.

Earlier, he had shared a tweet against the policy, but on Sunday night, he told Reuters quite plainly that he was in support of his bishops in their criticism of Trump.

Let it be clear that in these things, I respect (the position of) the bishops conference, he said.

Does Trump care?

This puts further pressure on Trump to review the problematic policy that arrests and criminally prosecutes illegal migrants and separates them from their children indefinitely. But the president seems unperturbed by his unpopularity.

Still, most Americans are certain that the Pope's statement could make a big difference.
