Miley Cyrus may have confused some fans when she came out as a pansexual, gender-fluid person in 2015 before she got back together with her ex Liam Hemsworth. But now she's setting the record straight: she's still very queer.

Surprise wedding

The Wrecking Ball singer got married to Hemsworth in late 2018 in an intimate wedding.

Before they tied the knot the two lovebirds had been very low key about their relationship after they resumed dating.

They met in 2009 while filming The Last Song and got engaged, but broke up four years later after which Miley came out.

Miley on being queer and married to Liam

But in a new interview with Vanity Fair, Miley is admitting that her identity as a pansexual, gender-fluid person is still very intact. It's not a phase she went through during her breakup from the Hunger Games actor.

The singer says her marriage to Hemsworth is redefining what it means to be queer:

The reason that people get married sometimes can be old-fashioned, but I think the reason we got married isn’t old-fashioned — I actually think it’s kind of New Age. We’re redefining, to be frank, what it looks like for someone that’s a queer person like myself to be in a hetero relationship. A big part of my pride and my identity is being a queer person.

It may be a lot to take in, but Miley says this is kind of spiritual for her.

What I preach is: People fall in love with people, not gender, not looks, not whatever. What I’m in love with exists on almost a spiritual level.

The actor who has just starred in a quirky romantic comedy Isn't It Romantic? says he feels really happy and fortunate to be with such a great person.

He also told TODAY that he almost did not get to meet Miley or star in The Last Song because someone else was originally cast to play his role. This means their love began with a really beautiful meet-cute story!
