One of the brightest stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood has gone out! The screen and music legend Doris Day has died, her foundation has officially confirmed.
The statement from The Doris Day Animal Foundation says she “had been in excellent physical health for her age, until recently contracting a serious case of pneumonia, resulting in her death.”
She was 97 and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her nearest and dearest.
Day, equally talented as an actress and as a singer, made a head-spinning career in Hollywood. She retired shortly after the passing of her good friend and fellow actor, Rock Hudson. After quitting the industry, Day decided to dedicate the rest of her life to her favorite cause: animal welfare activism.
Until her passing, Day lived in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, dedicating most of her time to caring for animals. On April 3, she celebrated her 97th birthday and used the occasion as an opportunity for charity events to support her foundation.
Tributes to the late star
Day was in her late nineties, but it’s still hard to believe she’s gone. Her films and music raised generations!
Here are a few messages from personalities who admire her great talent:

So sad to hear that Doris Day has died. While working for the Duke of Bedford I discovered their family motto is Que Sera Sera, which was sung by Doris Day in the film the man who knew too much. - Que Sera Sera - https://t.co/Sn5HWU3wq9 pic.twitter.com/ZWyaw1lzLV— The Royal Butler (@TheRoyalButler) May 13, 2019
