Though the service is set to take place in July, a date, however, has not been confirmed. Archie’s brow will be doused with water from the River Jordan from the royal Lily Font. He will be wearing the traditional Windsor garment, a replica of the Honiton lace christening gown, just like his cousin Prince George.

Why the Queen will not be attending

Since the birth of their son, the royal couple have shielded him a lot from the public. But with the upcoming christening, this will be a chance for the royal family to celebrate Archie who was born on May 6.

Though most senior royals are expected to attend, the absence of one important guest might disappoint the couple, that is the Queen. Information obtained from Express.co.uk, says the Palace confirmed the Queen would not be able to attend as she has prior commitments.

However, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, will be present for the christening of her first grandchild. Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will also be present.

Queen Elizabeth also missed Prince Louis' christening

On July 9, 2018, William and Kate christened their youngest son, Louis. While key members of the royal were present, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip skipped the ceremony.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Queen and her husband did not miss the ceremony because of health issues. Her Majesty and Prince Phillip were absent because they both needed to prepare for numerous royal engagements that were planned.
