Changes in a mom’s body

During week 30, many of the symptoms from the previous week continue. Expecting moms tend to feel fatigued at this point, and many find it hard to sleep comfortably, as the growing belly limits sleeping positions. Also, waking up to pee at night is very common at this point.

Weight gain increases, as the baby’s weight gain rate speeds up. He or she now gains about half a pound each week. By the way, what about the baby? How is he or she doing at this point?

Changes in the baby’s body

The baby is about the size of a big cabbage, and his or her weight is about 3 pounds. The baby is starting to look plumper and less wrinkled.

At week 30, the baby’s eyes have already become light-sensitive, and his or her vision continues to develop.

The baby’s sucking reflex is developing, and he or she can now suck his or her fingers, the NHS points out. Also, the white, greasy substance covering the baby’s skin (known as vernix) and the soft, downy hair on his or her skin (called lanugo) is starting to disappear.
