The pair began dating when they were both about 15. In that time, Valentin was arrested and sentenced to prison. According to the former gang member, Vanessa would come to visit him often.
He was released from jail after 16 months, and he and Vanessa rekindled their relationship. They were deeply in love, Valentin claimed, saying they often talked about getting married and having kids.
