"Just Shut Up And Step Up": Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono Goes Hard On Men In Emotional Speech
September 19, 2018 17:04 By Fabiosa
In a very emotionally charged speech on Tuesday, September 18, Democratic Senator from Hawaii Mazie Hirono literally took a bat to men in America. The senator was speaking in support of Dr. Blasey Ford, a woman who recently accused presidential nominee for the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, of sexual harassment.
I just want to say to the men in this country to shut up and step up.
Hirono’s comments stem from her anger that men in America were constantly working to silence women speaking out against sexual abuse and harassment. During her speech, she also called on 'reasonable' American men to do right and step up to defend Ford as she prepares to appear at the Senate hearing.
We will not stand for the continued victimization and smearing of Dr. Blasey Ford. All of us must work to end this kind of treatment of survivors who bravely share their experiences. pic.twitter.com/kgJtRUK0Hq— Senator Mazie Hirono (@maziehirono) September 18, 2018
Dr. Blasey Ford initially wrote a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), hoping that the issue of her accusations would be kept confidential. However, this was not the first time she shared her story.
The entire array of the White House's power is behind Judge Kavanaugh. It not only places Dr. Blasey Ford at a disadvantage, it victimizes her. No survivor of sexual assault should be subjected to death threats and concern about the safety of their family. https://t.co/iAgFMo5bPI— Senator Mazie Hirono (@maziehirono) September 19, 2018
Washington Post reported that Ford spoke to her marriage counselor and husband about her assault incident with Kavanaugh in 2012. Washington Post also examined notes taken by the counselor in 2012, and confirmed their veracity.
thank you Senator Hirono, you're a hero of mine.— Kiki Martin (@Kiki_Martini27) September 18, 2018
Kavanaugh has denied the accusations, but bowed to pressure from both sides of the political divide, and will appear at a special hearing alongside Ford on Monday, September 24. Ford also revealed that filmmaker Mark Judge was present during the incident.
We can watch and see how it plays out. I was kinda a Barrett fan anyway 😁 That Indiana gal would be awesome as SCOTUS! ☺️— Gayla ❌ #WalkAway (@Gayla) September 19, 2018

President Trump personally nominated Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, but Democrats unanimously cried out against the nomination. Earlier this month, they attempted to stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation. With Ford’s case adding fuel to the fire and Kavanaugh’s character in contention, his chances of confirmation seem even slimmer than before.
