A 16-year-old girl was tragically killed in a car crash when she took off her seatbelt to take a selfie. Her devastated parents say she would be still alive, if she had been wearing her seatbelt.
Tragic cost of a selfie
Kailee Mills, from Houston, Texas, was a beloved daughter, a great student, and a good friend to everyone who knew her. Kailee’s sudden death didn't leave anyone indifferent. Her classmates and teachers describe Mills as the girl with a big heart and heart-warming smile, who was always ready to support a friend in need.
One day, Kailee and her three friends returned from a party. The young people were driving in a car. At some point, Kailee decided to take off her seatbelt to take a selfie. Seconds after she did this, the driver lost control over the vehicle.
The car went off the road. Everyone who had been wearing a seatbelt, survived at that terrible accident. Kailee was killed due to severe injuries. She died before the ambulance arrived.
The grieving parents told Fox:
Our daughter would be here today if she had been wearing her seatbelt.

After their 16-year-old daughter’s demise, her parents launched the Kailee Mills Foundation to bring public awareness to the safety rules while driving a car. A slogan of their foundation is “Seatbelts save lives.”

We also want to remind everyone to follow safety rules on the road. Please, remember that wearing a seatbelt can save your life and prevent severe trauma.
