Wanda leaves

Actress Wanda Skyes announced she was leaving ABC’s Roseanne revival, after reading Roseanne Barr’s awful tweets about former President Barack Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.

The comedian served as a writer and consulting producer for the revival of the famous sitcom.

On Twitter, Roseanne had described Valerie Jarrett the former aide of Barack Obama as the child of the “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes.”  She has since apologized and deleted the tweet.

Why did she quit?

Speaking to New York Times in an interview, Wanda said she left the show because she could not condone Roseanne’s offensive tweets. She said:

Then the morning we were ready to come back for the second season, I pick up my phone, and it’s blowing up. I’m like, “What is this?” I looked at the Valerie Jarrett tweet, and I was like, Aw, jeez, I can’t condone this.

The comedian said she told producers Bruce Helford and Tom Werner that she can’t be a part of Roseanne’s mess:

Guys, I can’t be a part of this. I’ve got to get ahead of this. I can’t just be silent. That’s why I said I wouldn’t be going back.

Wanda said she noticed the actress’s tweets would be an issue while they were working together on Last Comic Standing in 2014 and 2015.

As the executive producer of the show, Wanda read the actress’s posts and said: “We’ve got to get Roseanne off of Twitter. She’s going to kill us.”

The show without Roseanne

Although Roseanne’s tweets led to the immediate cancellation of the series, it didn’t look like there was any need to salvage the revival.

Well, it looks like the spin-off The Conners had a great first season, with its quality and ratings. The spinoff, which has the same cast apart from Roseanne herself, is ABC’s top comedy.

We wish Wanda Skyes all the best in her ventures!
