Shannen Doherty Gets Emotional As She Remembers Her Late '90210' Co-Star Luke Perry

Riverdale and Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry passed away on Monday, his representative has confirmed. The actor suffered a stroke on February 27 and died at the hospital, surrounded by his family. He was only 52.

His friends, co-stars, and others who knew him personally have expressed their sympathies to the family and shared touching memories of Luke. Shannen Doherty, who played his love on 90210, was especially emotional when she spoke about his passing.

Saying goodbye to a co-star and dear friend

The actress spoke to People about Luke’s sudden and unexpected passing and couldn’t hold back her emotions. She told the magazine:

I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind.

Shannen and Luke hadn’t talked much after 90210 finished its run, but Luke reached out to Shannen after she made her breast cancer diagnosis public. Her co-star was very supportive throughout her treatment, Shannen told People.

Shannen knew Luke as a good actor, but he was also an amazing father who loved his son and daughter unconditionally. The actress recalled:

Luke loved his family. He raved about his kids and how proud he was of them. He showed me videos of them often. They were his heart and for him, his biggest accomplishment.

His nearest and dearest were with him until the end

Luke had two children – son Jack, 21, and daughter Sophie, 18 – with his ex, Rachel Sharp.

Jack and Sophie were by his side when he died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank. Rachel was there with them, too, and Luke’s fiancée, Wendy Madison Bauer, was also present.

Rest in peace, Luke! You’ll be remembered by your fans as a talented actor, and your family will remember you as a great man.
