Entertainment Tonight caught up with Trebek and asked him a poignant question: how would he like to be remembered after his retirement?

The veteran host gave a humble response:

Just as a good guy, a nice man, and somebody that you looked at on television on a daily basis and said, ‘Hey, you know what? I like him.’

When asked about thoughts of retirement, Trebek honestly admitted that he does think about it from time to time, and, even more candidly, said with a chuckle that being paid well is one of the things that still keep him in the game.

The host spoke about retiring from Jeopardy! even before he got the cancer diagnosis, and he even mentioned who he thinks is the best candidate to fill in his shoes. He joked that he would nominate Betty White – she would be a perfect replacement!
