David Letterman is a very successful man. We are not talking about his career only. The 72-year-old managed to build a strong family with his wife, Regina Lasko.

However, being focused on building his own empire made him put aside the joys of fatherhood. Letterman admitted that he wishes he started thinking about having children earlier in life.

Even though the TV star would have loved to have more kids, he is blessed with a son with whom he has a very special relationship.

Close bond

In a very rare interview, the 72-year-old TV host bared his heart about his only child, son Harry. Retiring from his own show let him spend more time with Harry and build a close bond with him.

Letterman shares:

The first year I sure did [miss late night]. You get into a rhythm so I miss that. But the best part is, I get to do stuff with my son.

Some parents might want to create some boundaries with their children but David is not like that, he wants to be his son’s best friend. He shares:

Screw that. Look at me — how much longer am I going to be around? I want to be the best friend.

Letterman appreciates his only child, even more so after it was reported that Harry was almost kidnapped when he was 16 months old.

But, luckily, his plans didn’t come to fruition and David gets to enjoy being a father for as long as he can.
