Victoria's Secret is, arguably, the most recognizable lingerie brand in the whole world. The company was founded back in 1977 and by 2019, it is considered to be the largest lingerie retailer.

But the brand is not only famous for its fabulous underwear. Since 1995, Victoria's Secret started holding their annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show which shot many models to stardom.

Being a part of the show is a big honor which can help to get recognition in the fashion world. Recently, the brand showed its modern side as it was reported that the fashion show cast its first transgender model.

Facing backlash

Back in November 2018, Victoria's Secret’s chief marketing officer, Ed Razek got under fire for saying he doesn’t think transgender women should be a part of the brand’s iconic fashion show.

He told Vogue:

It’s like, why doesn’t your show do this? Shouldn’t you have transsexuals in the show? No. No, I don’t think we should. Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy. That’s what it is.

Many people criticized Razek’s words. However, it seems that now the brand decided to change its direction and hire its first trans model.

Transgender Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio revealed to her followers she had been cast for a photo shoot for Victoria's Secret's PINK line. Sampaio shared a snap of herself sitting on a chair in a dressing gown.

Social media is divided

Some people praised the brand for making such a decision while others noted that they might lose some audience members who are straight males.
