When the Grey’s Anatomy star Caterina Scorsone found out that her baby has Down syndrome, she couldn’t believe her ears. What does it feel for the actress to raise the child with a disability? Caterine opened up in a candid interview.
My daughter has Down syndrome
Caterina Scorsone is best known for her appearance in the popular drama series Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy. But who would have thought the actress’ own life resembles a drama series too?
Caterina is a mother of two wonderful girls. Her elder daughter, Eliza, is 6 years old. Her younger child, Paloma Michaela, is 2.
Paloma has Down syndrome. For Caterina, it was a real shock to find out her precious daughter’s diagnosis. In a candid interview on the Motherly podcast, the Grey’s Anatomy star explained how her motherhood concept has changed since that time.
What I unconsciously thought about my job as a mother was that I was supposed to equip her to survive in a competitive world.
But like every mother, Caterina can’t love her daughter less only because she differs from other children. On the contrary, Paloma’s diagnosis made Caterina love and care about her even more.

This simple voice came to me where I was like, ‘I don’t know what to do — oh, I’m supposed to keep her safe and I’m supposed to make her feel loved.
Today, Caterina can’t imagine her life without her beloved daughters. The actress believes that kids with Down syndrome shouldn’t be treated any different and deserve the same love of their parents. We totally agree with her!
