Many years after 15-year-old William and 12-year-old Harry were seen walking in the funeral procession behind their mom's coffin, the younger prince opened up about what a tough experience it was.

Prince Harry revealed to Newsweek 20 years after Diana's death that the event was a traumatic one for him.

My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television. I don't think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don't think it would happen today.

Elton John opens up

In an excerpt from his book Elton John Official Autobiography, Elton John talked about the experience of performing an emotional rendition of Candle In The Wind at his late friend's funeral.

While sharing his story, he expressed his disapproval of the way Prince William and Prince Harry were treated that day.

They were 15 and 12, and I thought the way they were treated that day was absolutely inhuman.

He wrote about how upset he was that the young boys were forced to walk the streets of London behind their mother's coffin and how they were directed not to show any emotion.

It was a horrendous way to treat two kids who’d just lost their mum.

Closeness to Harry

Over the years, Elton John continues to maintain a close friendship with Prince Harry and Prince William.

The singer once expressed his pride in the Duke of Sussex after he made the Time's 100 most influential people list in 2018.

According to Town&Country, Elton John expressed how proud he was to see who Harry has become and how he inherited "his mother’s warmth, sense of humor and courage."

It's nice to see that Elton's friendship with the princes has continued to blossom over the years.
