Earlier this year, the 32-year-old opened up about his mental health issues, stressing on having clinical depression. As it usually happens, James kept his battle in secret, and even his family didn't know about it at the beginning.

In a candid letter on Daily Mail, James Middleton confessed he had felt "a complete failure" while he was suffering from depression in private.

It is tricky to describe the condition. It is not merely sadness. It is an illness, a cancer of the mind.

On October 11, the English businessman bared his heart about battling depression in a new interview with The Telegraph. He exclusively said he "couldn't do anything" before he started a professional treatment a bit over a year ago.

He found it difficult to sleep, eat, read a book, watch a movie, and even talk to his family. After visiting a private psychotherapist for a consultation, James Middleton spent nearly a year in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), attending sessions with his family members, including the Duchess of Cambridge, from time to time.

The 32-year-old realizes he's not over his depression yet, but he's thankful he's gone through it with the help of the family.

It was a dark and miserable place to be, but the fact is there is hope at the end. It requires effort and energy, but the other side is… the grass can be greener than it was before.

As the little brother of Kate and Pippa Middleton, James has always felt a bit 'overshadowed' by his siblings, but he is totally alright with it. Talking to Daily Mail, he pointed out:

It's always been, whether at school or now, that I am Pippa and Catherine's little brother. It's probably going to be the story of my life. [But] I am James Middleton. I am very proud to be "the little brother of…" but, equally, they are proud that I am who I am.

We are proud of James Middleton for finding the courage to talk about mental health issues. We believe more people should do the same instead of leading a battle in secret.
