Sarah Ferguson has been spotted in sailor collar dresses and puffy designs in the 80s.

There have been a number of hits and misses since then including an unforgettable power suit era. All these gave people the idea that she was struggling when it came to finding what worked for her.

Or perhaps she was simply having a lot of fun getting dressed up that she didn't mind what people taught.

Ingrid's attack

Royal expert Ingrid Seward seemed to have been greatly offended by this fashion phase of the Duchess of York.

While speaking on Channel 5's Secrets of Royal Dressmakers, Ingrid claimed that the duchess just wasn't one of the best-dressed royals, saying:

The worst dresser of all time was definitely Fergie.

Ingrid went on to say that Sarah looked fine in casual clothes like jeans and t-shirts but she was a "disaster in the fashion of the 80s." Speaking about the royal's fashion, the author stated:

It was too frilly, there were too many bows.

Sarah's upgrade

Ingrid seemed to have issues with Sarah's style from many years ago but fellow royal expert Emily Andrew argued that since those times, the Duchess of York has come into her own in terms of style.

Emily explained that the royal mom's fashion sense has gotten so much be better as she got older and many of Sarah's fans agreed.

The mother of two has received many compliments on her dress choices and fabulous style combinations.

So while people may not think she looked her best many years ago, Sarah Ferguson has surely evolved today and is now one of the most glamorously dressed royal women.
