Ever since Meghan Markle’s induction as a member of the British Royal family, she has been breaking records. And the mother-of-one has done it again!

It was announced that Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex would be guest-editing the September edition of Vogue in collaboration with the editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful.

The Duchess is the first royal, and guest editor to guest-edit the renowned style magazine.

The only other person who has come close is Beyonce, who was once featured as Creative Director.

Royals who have been on the magazine cover are Queen Elizabeth, Kate Middleton. Princess Diana, Princess Anne, and a few others.

A detailed editor

Peter Lindbergh, who was the photographer for the September issue’s cover has revealed that Meghan was very specific in her instructions about the cover art.

He said,

“My instructions from the Duchess were clear: ‘I want to see freckles!’”

He added that this was in line with what he stands for as he dislikes retouching or make-up.

This anticipated edition is highly ambitious as it is dubbed ‘Forces for Change’ and captures 15 astounding women-activists that cut across three continents, industries, and ages.

A win for Meghan, a loss for the Royal Family

Undoubtedly, this is a win for Meghan, but Daniela Elser, royal expert, and writer opines that this move by the mother of one is a headache for the royal family.

The writer insists that though the Duchess is supposed to be an ambassador for Britain and its interests, only 5 of the 15 women on the cover are British.

“This isn’t pettiness, this goes to the very heart of the royal family’s raison d’etre. Like it or not, persistently promoting Old Blighty at every opportunity is an essential function of the royal family.”

She concludes that if Meghan truly wanted to give a platform to highlight these women’s achievements, she did not need Vogue for that. Being a royal is more than enough.

What do you think? Is this just another way to criticize Meghan? Or could the Duchess have done better?
