Every year on September 11, the world remembers the devastating World Trade Center tragedy that happened in 2001. The terrifying attack caused the deaths of 2,996 people. There were also many lucky ones who avoided the terrible fate, and some of them are celebrities that shared their experience.

Sarah Ferguson recalls escaping 9/11

In 2001, the Duchess of York was working on a charity Chances for Children in NYC. Her office was located on 101st of the North Tower at the World Trade Center.

On September 11, Sarah Ferguson got stuck in traffic and avoided death during the attack by mere 20 minutes. The royal told Hello! it gave her a new appreciation for life:

I take every minute as a blessing, I really do, and I really work hard at it. Because the minute you look too far forward, then you're missing now.

We can't imagine how terrifying that was, but we're happy Sarah is still with us.

Other celebrities that miraculously avoided the tragedy

There are quite a few famous people that could've died during 9/11, including Michael Jackson, Rob Lowe, and Gwyneth Paltrow. But the most lucky stories come from Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane.

Both actors were scheduled to fly American Airlines Flight 11, one of the two planes that crashed into the World Trade Center. Right before the flight, Wahlberg decided to instead fly to Toronto to attend a film festival, while MacFarlane missed the boarding by a few minutes.

Wahlberg and MacFarlane still recall the close-call and are extremely grateful they missed their flights.
