Prince Andrew's Royal Status: How His "Stepping Back" From Royal Duties Might Affect Him In The Royal Family

Date November 22, 2019

Prince Andrew officially quits royalty "for the foreseeable future" under the Queen's permission. The father-of-two has been involved in the scandal surrounding disgraced financier and offender, Jeffrey Epstein, and stepping down from royal duties seemed to be the only possible decision.

The Duke of York wrote:

Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.

The meaning behind Prince Andrew's quitting his royal duties

How does Prince Andrew's stepping back from royal duties really affect his role within the royal family? While the Duke of York will no longer perform any public duties as a member of the royal family, not much else will change at this time.

A royal source told PEOPLE the following:

He remains a member of the royal family. As a royal colonel and a war veteran, you can expect to see him at Remembrance Sunday. You can expect to see him on the balcony at Trooping the Colour too.

Prince Andrew's decision to quit royal duties means nothing but the protection of his immediate family, which also will help take him out of the firing line.

His quitting also put hopes for him that it will help diminish the furor over his connection to Jeffrey Epstein.

The 59-year-old royal will likely keep his title as the Duke of York and keep his place in the line of succession to the throne. Other members of the royal family are not full-time working royals, but still, have official titles.

Prince Andrew's latest news

I think you have to separate the three people away from the rest of the Royal Family. They've got to deal with the situation, the rest of the Royal Family will carry on business as usual.

Well, Prince Andrew is already off for an unknown period, whereas Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have taken a 6-week vacation from royal duties to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with Doria Ragland. What do you think is going to be next with the trio?
