“They’re Not Superhuman:” Meghan And Harry Are Entitled To Take Time Off, Archbishop Of Canterbury Says

Date October 28, 2019

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are going on vacation! It’s been announced that the couple is taking 6 weeks off in late November to focus on spending some quality time as a family.

The couple was, unsurprisingly, criticized for their decision but they’ve got a very powerful supporter.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby supported the Sussex couple and defended their wish to have some time off in a recent interview.

Speaking with the Sunday Times, he said:

All members of the royal family are under a pressure that none of us outside it can possibly imagine. Every personal action is scrutinized. Every statement is over-interpreted, over-read.

The 63-year-old noted that if people looked at Meghan and Harry’s royal duties as a job, they would see that the two don’t take the full ‘allowance of leave’ every person is entitled to.

Welby added:

I don’t know why it should be a point of criticism that they take leave to spend time with a new baby in the way that the law provides for every single employee in this country. They’re not superhuman.

The Archbishop has built a very close relationship with the royal couple after conducting their wedding in May last year.

Will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry travel to the USA during their break? We don’t know but the couple is expected to spend their Christmas with the Queen and other royals at the monarch’s Sandringham estate.
