The shooting incident occurred before 9 pm and police arrived the scene at about 9:17 pm. Unfortunately, they were too late to apprehend the shooter. Police identified Jordan’s adult son as the main suspect in the shooting, but they have not released his name to the press.
First responders were able to get Jordan to a hospital, but he did not survive the attack and died later that day. A manhunt is under way to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice.
Many Americans are concerned about the increasing cases of gun violence in the US. Some are calling for stricter measures on gun control, while others propose outright bans on ownership of firearms. The situation is so disturbing that safety experts advise people to exercise caution, especially at public gatherings, in case shootings occur.
Pete Blair, the executive director of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center at Texas State University, says the best course of action to take when faced with an active shooter is to find a means of escape.
If you can get away from that person, that is the best thing to do.
It is advisable to yell “gun” or “gunman” as a warning to other people, so they too can take cover. If armed, pulling out your firearm could heighten the confusion and further aggravate a shooter. After that, find a safe place to hide and call the police.
Challenging a shooter or tackling them is not advisable. The risk of getting shot is a lot higher. While some people have successfully suppressed shooters in the past by tackling them, be aware of the danger they pose.
