In Oakland Park, Florida, a 25-year-old man was killed and his passenger was injured by a flying tire that came off a box truck.
A driver was pronounced dead at the scene after a tire flew off a box truck and landed on the roof of his car. The fatal incident took place on Tuesday evening on Interstate 95. According to authorities, the truck’s front left tire came loose, flew over a concrete barrier wall, and slammed into the man’s Ford SUV.
The SUV driver was a 25-year-old Joseu Alfonso Cala. His female passenger was hospitalized, but her injuries were not severe. The footage from the scene showed the SUV having a completely damaged front left side.
What caused the box truck’s tire to get loose is still unknown and is under investigation. FHP Lt. Alvaro Feola stated:
Obviously, when one of these events and this tragedy happens, it’s really sad. You’re traveling northbound and you get struck by a tire.
The box truck’s driver was not hurt.
Daily vehicle inspection and careful driving can save a lot of lives. There are people who are oblivious to the fact that their cars need inspection or repairs. The manufacturers warn drivers that they need to make a rigorous habit of going to the mechanic, instead of doing it every couple of months. Daily inspections are a must when you want to be sure your car performs exactly as it is expected and that it is safe to drive it.
