First, according to the tradition, the town crier announces the good news to the public. The custom dates back to the ancient times when most people couldn’t write or read.

But prior to making the news public, the Queen must be the first person to be told about the delivery of a new royal child.

Another unwritten rule is welcoming a baby at home. But this tradition is not followed a religiously since Princess Diana and Princess Anne both gave birth to their children at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Finally, and most surprisingly, dads are not allowed to be in the delivery room. But do Duchess Catherine and Prince William follow this birthing protocol?

The answer is – not at all!

In fact, William’s wife often strays away from following the rules. To start with, Kate has given birth to all of her 3 children at St. Mary’s Lindo wing.

When little George was born, the couple did inform the Queen about the happy news over the phone. But they also announced the addition to their family on Twitter.

What is more, the Duke of Cambridge has broken protocol by being present at all of his children’s births.

Actually, he’s not the first royal to do so. Back in 1964, Prince Philip was present at the birth of Prince Edward.

Kate and William also break protocol when it comes to raising their children. As it is known, heirs to the British throne can’t travel together.

However, this doesn’t stop the Duke of Cambridge from taking his son George with him on royal tours.

Besides, while most royals are schooled at the palace, Kate and William decided to send their kids to local schools.

Finally, the two don’t have a team of nannies to help them raise their children. Instead, they have a more hands-on approach.
