Michael's World Changed When He Learned His Wife Jennifer Riordan Had Died
Life is indeed unpredictable, as you might learn one day that the person you love died in a horrible accident. The accident we’re talking about is Southwest Airlines mid-air engine explosion. And what makes it even more devastating is that Jennifer Riordan happened to become the first person in 10 years to die on the US flight.
Jennifer was a 43-year-old mother of two, a beloved wife, and an open-hearted woman. The woman was killed because of the Southwest Airlines Flight 1380’s engine explosion. Although she was wearing a seatbelt, she got partially sucked into the broken window, which blew out because of the debris and shrapnel from the engine severely damaged it.
Tammie Jo Shults was the pilot of the plane and miraculously managed to land the vehicle with one broken engine safely at Philadelphia International Airport.
Jennifer didn't make it
Riordan was immediately evacuated to the nearest medical facility. However, despite the doctors’ attempts to save Jennifer’s life, she died due to blunt impact trauma to her head, neck, and torso, according to the report.
Michael Riordan is devastated by the loss. He remembers his thoughts when he learned about the accident:
If the whole plane didn’t crash, there’s got to be… She can’t be injured that bad. She’s just in the hospital, but I can get out there and hold her hand and love her.
Just two minutes later after this, he got a call from the doctor saying that his wife didn’t make it.
Michael immediately thought of his kids. It seemed almost impossible to tell them the horrible news. The husband himself a week later is still in a state of denial.
Michael took the children to a chapel, where he told them that “mommy’s not going to come home” while holding their little hands.
Michael and Jennifer met in a shopping mall 29 years ago, when he was 17 and she was 15. Since that time, the couple has been together until the very death.
As the planes that have similar engines are now under quick inspection, we hope this can prevent such horrible tragedies from happening. We send our prayers to the Riordan family.
