It is very likely to have health-related issues at Prince Philip’s age. The 96-year-old royal has been suffering a hip problem for about a month. Recently, he underwent a hip replacement surgery, and now, he feels comfortable after the successful procedure.

Duke of Edinburgh is doing great in general for his age. Although he is officially retired from his royal duties, he likes to visit all sorts of events very unexpectedly to the delight of attendees.

Philip went carriage-driving just a few days after announcing his retirement. So, the reason behind it wasn’t medical at all. He just wanted to enjoy his free time.

Philip may want to show everybody that he is healthy and strong, and it is definitely true. However, he has some issues with health. (Show us a person who is perfectly healthy).

It is said that the prince has been suffering from chronic back pain for more than 20 years. It may be the reason for his occasional episodes of a quick temper.

However, the hip issue was more serious than it seemed and had to be fixed as soon as possible. Prince Philip even missed the Royals’ Easter Sunday event.

The surgery

According to Philip’s close friend, the surgery didn’t intimidate him. Philip had to choose between undergoing the procedure or avoiding his favorite hobby, carriage-driving.

Philip fell in love with carriage-driving after he was forced to give up polo in 1971 because of arthritis in his right hand.

Prince Harry’s upcoming wedding was also on the duke’s mind. Philip easily decided to lay under the surgeon’s knife to be able to attend the ceremony and, of course, his favorite Royal Windsor Horse Show a couple of weeks later.

According to The Telegraph, the duke was successfully operated on April 4 and is said to be in good spirits. Buckingham Palace stated:

The Duke of Edinburgh has undergone a successful hip replacement operation. He is progressing satisfactorily at this early stage. His Royal Highness is likely to remain in hospital for several days. He is comfortable and in good spirits.

The Queen and other family members, of course, are fully informed about Philip’s condition.

The upcoming wedding

Philip loves his grandson Harry and thinks about his upcoming wedding very often. His friend says: ‘With convalescence, he hopes to be there.’

Furthermore, Philip got along with the grandson’s fiancée, Meghan. It is said that he loved her boldness, as the royal-to-be wasn’t afraid and asked a lot of questions during their first meeting.
