The 63-year-old country legend hosted the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards and performed her hit "Does He Love You" with daughter-in-law Kelly Clarkson.
But it’s not only her incredible performance that was on everybody’s tongue on that evening. Reba graced the stage with the same red velvet gown that she wore during a 1993 performance of the song with Linda Davis.
The breathtaking dress designed by Sandi Spika caused a lot of stir at that time because of its quite revealing décolletage that left nothing to the imagination. Reba remembers about wearing it for the first time:
It was very revealing and I didn’t know that! I had only had two fittings with [designer] Sandy Spika. One was at our office and I said, ‘I think you need to fill some more stuff in!’ When I put it on in the dressing room at the Grand Ole Opry for the show, I thought, ‘Maybe it’s just the lighting in here.’ And when I walked out on the stage, I heard the audience go ‘Oooooh!’ And I thought, ‘Dang, I look good!
She certainly did!
Although the singer admits there was one person who wasn’t really happy about her choice – her dad.
Daddy said, ‘Did you have that thing on backwards?
Even though Reba didn’t win an award that night, the dress surely served its purpose, as it made “the front page of the paper the next day”.
This time, Reba decided to bring the memories back.
I didn’t tell Sandi I was going to bring it back and wear it tonight. I saw her reaction, I saw her in the audience, she was crying. It fit, really pleased.
Kelly Clarkson, who is married to Reba's former stepson, Brandon Blackstock, couldn’t stop praising the singer and her bold choice:
It was amazing. I was telling my husband, my team that's with me today, no matter how long I've known her, no matter that we're even family now, it's still that 10-year-old kid [that] gets giddy. And especially, she came out in that dress. The red dress, I was like, 'Oh, OK.' Rocking that dress, I can't.
The Twitter world didn’t wait long to share its reaction:
Heck, I can’t even fit into clothes I wore 2 years ago, lol! They don’t call you Queen for nothing! Always beautiful, always an amazing voice ❤️✨
