Sheer Determination! Bride With Stage 4 Cancer Surprised Doctors And Lives Long Enough To See Her Wedding Day

Inspiration

A woman has proven doctors wrong simply by staying alive despite their fears that she would not live long enough to see her wedding day.

Laurin Bank was determined to see her special day

The 29-year-old bride was once told by her doctors to move up her wedding date because they were not very optimistic that she had enough time left. In September, when things were looking bleak, they urged the cancer patient to change her mind about the March 24 wedding date she had set. She refused.

Speaking about why she and now-husband, Michael, chose to stick to the date, Laurin said, it "was very special to us." The young lady who was battling stage 4 breast cancer, said that she felt changing her plans meant she was letting the disease run her life. She told PEOPLE:

We didn’t want to give in. That was our goal, … and I was able to walk down the aisle to my husband. I was able to dance with him and I didn’t need a wheelchair or oxygen. I did it I made it.

Laurin was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in 2014. Since then, she has undergone a lot of procedures including chemo, radiation, and a double mastectomy. Things seemed to be looking up when she was declared cancer-free in 2015.

Unfortunately, she received bad news in August last year that her cancer had returned as Stage 4. And it had metastasized to her bones, liver, and lungs. Even though she was devastated, Laurin was determined to fight. She went through a grueling treatment, and it was at this point that her oncologist advised her to move up her wedding date because her lungs were failing.

However, for Laurin and Michael, March 24 really meant something. It was the anniversary of their first date three years ago.

And against all odds, they did it! The beautiful bride was able to walk down the aisle and say her wedding vows as 230 close friends and family watched.

Laurin is still very optimistic about the future. She is already planning trips she fully intends on taking with her new husband.

Her story is inspiring

Upon reading Laurin's amazing experience, many people took to social media to congratulate her on her wedding and also expressed their good wishes.

We hope Laurin continues to get stronger. She has proven that sheer will can make anything possible, and we are all rooting for her.
