Religion Ruined Katie Holmes And Tom Cruise's Marriage, New Court Document Reveals

Date August 13, 2019

For years, the real reason Tom Cruise's high-profile marriage to Katie Holmes crashed was kept a mystery.

He was heartbroken and surprised

In a 2013 interview, while promoting his film, Oblivion, Cruise revealed that the divorce had left him shaken and humbled.

The Mission Impossible actor said he thought things were great between them and believed his life was on track until he was caught off-guard:

To be 50 and to have experiences and to think, you have a grip on everything, and then it hits you: This is it, what life can do to you.

The truth is finally out

The actor — who shares a daughter, Suri, with Holmes — has never addressed the reason for their divorce, but the actress has pointed to Cruise's commitment to Scientology in the past.

However, a confidential deposition document that recently surfaced shows how Tom Cruise felt about the rumors that Holmes left to protect Suri from Scientology, and why he's probably never addressed it publicly.

When asked if there was any truth to the reports, Tom Cruise, who was suing a publication for claiming he abandoned his daughter, said he was deeply offended by that question. He said:

I find it very offensive. There's no need to protect my daughter from my religion.

Did he lie about being taken unawares?

But he acknowledged that he knew how Holmes felt about his religion. He also admitted that Suri had not practiced the religion since she began living with her mom. But, it is much worse than that. The actor appears to be currently estranged from Suri.

The father and daughter have not been photographed together in public since 2013, following his 2012 separation from Holmes. Suri was 6 when the couple parted ways.
