Jennifer Aniston On How Her Look Didn't Meet Mom's Expectations: “She Was Very Critical Of Me"

Date January 8, 2020

Nancy Dow, a famous model and actress, passed away in 2016 at 79 years old. She suffered a stroke, the second and the last one in her life. She died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.

One of those people was her daughter, Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston. The two were not on speaking terms for a very long time, but was what the reason for their feud?

Critical parent

Working in the modeling industry, Nancy Dow hoped that her daughter will grow up and become a model herself. But Jennifer’s looks didn’t meet her expectations. Dow was obsessed with beauty, which completely ruined the relationship with her daughter.

In one of her interviews, Aniston revealed how critical her mother was:

She was critical. She was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn't. I never was. I honestly still don't think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine. She was also very unforgiving. She would hold grudges that I just found so petty.

The actress cut all contact with Dow after the latter released her book, From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir, back in 1999, which became the breaking point between them.

Aniston didn’t even invite her to her wedding with Brad Pitt in 2000, as well as her second nuptials with Justin Theroux in 2015.

Nancy Dow dreamed that her daughter Jennifer would become a model one day. Nevertheless, her obsession ruined relations with daughter for a very long period. But despite difficulties in their relationship, it was heartbreaking for Aniston to lose her mom and she will always be grateful for the happy times they shared together.
