Date December 19, 2019

Country singer Rory Feek is not allowing the demise of his late wife to diminish his spirit. Despite Joey’s death and his daughter’s disability, Rory never let it rob him of the joys of fatherhood as his wife had prepared him.

Loss of wife

Rory Feek lost his wife and music partner, Joey to cervical cancer at the age of 40. Joey says he is still in love with her.

The singer’s late spouse was first diagnosed with cancer a few months after giving birth to their daughter. Joey went through an aggressive treatment plan including hysterectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation.

Preparing to become a single father

Rory and Joey’s marriage was blessed with a daughter, Indiana, who lives with Down syndrome. The singer is also a father to two grown daughters, Hopie and Heidi, from a previous marriage.

As a guest on Rachael Ray Show, the father of three talked about his late wife’s selfless act regarding their daughter.

According to the singer, he said in the months leading up to her death, Joey made a decision to help prepare him to be a single father. Rory said:

She told me I'm going to push the baby away to make me greater in her life and her less because she knew it was going to be a transition. She had an understanding of the bigger picture.

Rory admitted that he wouldn’t have done that saying: "You get forever with her; I want all of it right now."

After her death, the country singer and his daughter developed a close bond that inspired him to write a children's book called The Cow Said Neigh!

Rory talks about raising his daughter

Rory and his late wife discovered Indiana had Down syndrome a few days after she was born. In an interview, the country singer opens up about his daughter’s disability.

He said:

"I don’t see myself as a father raising a child with a disability, only a father raising a child."

The singer also noted that getting to be a father for two seasons has been the greatest blessing of his life.

Rory Feek’s story is inspirational. Of course, he faced numerous harships, but managed to deal with them. He has embraced fatherhood with optimism in the midst of tragedy. We wish him all the best.
